The importance of the humanizing role of literature: reflecting on the teaching of literature in Brazilian schools

Abstract

This work aims to reflect on the role of literature in the lives of young people and discusses the importance of teaching literature in Brazilian schools, as well as encouraging literary reading as a way of forming critical and autonomous citizens. Thus, throughout the text, there is an exploration of the humanizing role of literature; the relevance of the need for teaching literature, as well as the reformulation of the current teaching method and the teacher's role as mediator of the text and student. With regard to the theoretical basis, we rely on studies by Todorov (2020), Rouxel (2012) and Rezende (2013).
